VERY Firm

My wife bought this for us recently. The claim to be cooler than other memory foam toppers is correct. Other than that, we didn’t find it very comfortable at all. For starters, it took a few days for it to not be wrinkled and pinched. After that, it still has a hump in the middle. I’d say it’s like sleeping on a gym mat. Because I’m a man with no curves in my hips, I was more tolerant than my wife who found it very uncomfortable.

I will say this, if you sleep on your back and are struggling with back problems, this topper might actually be what you need. I found it relatively OK to sleep on my back. It seamed supportive in that way. I couldn’t stay on my side for very long without feeling uncomfortable.

We ended up going with two 1.5″ green memory foam toppers from WalMart and we’re fairly comfortable now. It seams to be a bit softer than this foam.

Don’t buy this in King Size

As soon as my topper arrived I opened the package, unrolled the topper and allowed it to breathe and re-inflate for a week before placing it on my bed. The areas that were folded for shipping never came back to their original height. These folds remain flat, hard and are uncomfortable to lay on. The packaging is very small for a king size topper and I’m sure that’s the reason for the compressed areas. I would have rather purchased a king size topper from Sam’s Club or Belk where the toppers are in boxes much larger than this and about the same price as Homemedics. I don’t know what happened to the “Outlast Smart Fabric Technology.” I do not recommend purchasing this topper in king size and don’t know if there would be any difference in queen size or smaller.

Size issue

I purchased a King Size for a gift for my father. I went to visit over a month later and it is atleast 8-12 inches short in width. I am not at all happy with the product and it is pass the time to get a refund.

these are really everything i wanted in a warming bootie

I agonized over choosing a pair of microwave booties; the prices are high and low and the reviews are few and far between and people never seemed to give the information that i wanted most to know.
These are so perfect, they’re everything I wanted and more, I’m so very glad I went with these! There are 2 minor downs but I think they’re baggage that any of these type of thing carries; 1) I hate that you only nuke the first time for 30 seconds, then 10, then 10, then 10 to taste. I admit I’m cheating and going for 30, then 15, then 15. I don’t want to risk ruining them, but I like them very hot and hate waiting. 2) The lavender scent is VERY strong. If you don’t like that, remove the scented sachet and you’re good (but I bet they’ll still have some residual scent, it’s STRONG.)
Here’s what I wanted to know but had trouble finding out: They have the wheat filling sewn into the entire sole of the foot, toe to heel. They have a second hot packet of wheat that fits in the top of the bootie. There’s no wheat packet for the ankle or leg. They have a textured slipper sole, but really with the packet underfoot they are not meant for walking on- it’s too uneven and dangerous. Once heated the entire foot is encased in gently radiating warmth, it’s a very substantial feeling and there’s only the area from the ankle bone around the back of the heel to the other ankle bone without direct heat pressure. The bootie keeps heat inside, though, so it’s not a cold spot, just somewhere that there’s no weight of grain.
They are incredibly easy to use; you put the pair of boots (whole, no disassembly) on a plate or paper towel in a carousel microwave with a half cup of water, zap them for 30 seconds, test their temp, zap them for an additional 10 seconds and test, repeat as needed up to 2 minutes. The directions specify carousel microwave – if you don’t have the rotating plate you will probably need to start with a much shorter 10 second start and then rotate it by hand for each following 10 second zap.
I broke a bone in my right foot, and my PT is tiring out the muscles of my foot, especially painful at the arch. Using these is pure heaven, I like them a little hotter than they probably should be, but sitting here pressing my foot down on the hot grain and having the hot weight resting on top of my foot from toes to the bridge is the most wonderful feeling. It’s as good as having a foot bath going with so much less hassle and none of the mess. I spent so much time pouring over Amazon reviews for hot booties, I wish I’d settled down and chosen these sooner.

So darn cute I am keeping them anyway

I was looking for some nice heated booties for when I work on the computer in a colder room in my home. These looked so darn cute, I just found them irresistable.
Pros – Unique pattern although the white on the cow pattern can get stained/dirty easily, scented heat packets sit above and below the foot which is a definite perk, elastic is just right – they stay up without being too tight, once the fragrance mellows out, I think it will be a nice feature, they are washable after removing the inserts. They are comfortable and somewhat warm even if you don’t heat them or keep them heated. When warmed, they do not make my feet sweaty or too hot feeling. I had some reservations when it said item would take 3-5 weeks to ship, but I was delighted to receive the order in approximately one week instead.
Cons – They are made for BIG feet. The package says they fit up to size 9.5. I wear 8.5WW and these are quite large on me, at least a good size and a half. If you have a size 9.5 foot, great, otherwise they are definitely going to be big. They’d fit better if I wore thick socks but if I wanted to wear thick socks I probably wouldn’t have bought this product. The directions state very clearly you should heat the entire bootie not just the inserts. They recommend 30 seconds and then adding 10 second increments. I have a strong microwave and even heating them for 2 minutes has not produced any significant lasting warmth. I am a little concerned about microwaving something with buttons etc. longer than that but I think I may need to really nuke these for awhile. The fragrance in the booties is VERY potent so if you are very sensitive to scents, I would not purchase. I purposely did not buy the booties with lavender because it’s just not my favorite scent. I believe the cow print is supposed to have rosemary, pine and lemon but my booties smell very much like lavender. I wonder how careful they are with matching the correct scent packs with the booties. On the back of the booties, there is a button that fits through an elastic loop and the scent insert goes inside. On one of the booties, I find that the button tends to come undone leaving the bottom flapping open, even with casual lounging around. Velcro or some other closure may have been a better choice.
Other notes: They are comfortable for sitting or lounging around. Walking in them is not recommended or advisable. It is not comfortable and probably not very safe. This can be a pain if you are like me and tend to get up and down a lot. I know from other microwaveable booties, at best they are going to stay warm about 20-30 minutes. To be honest, if not for the cow pattern which I really fell in love with, I might have returned them. I am not faulting the product though. I actually think these are more well-made than others I have seen or tried, however in general microwave booties just don’t retain heat for that long.

Warm footy goodness!

These are so great! I recently moved from Hawaii to the Pacific Northwest, and my feet were suddenly cold EVERY night! So I bought these and it has been wonderful! They smell terrific & do a super job of keeping my feet toasty. And as everyone has said – if you try walking in them, do so carefully – they have a warning on the packaging NOT to walk in them. They are lumpy. But that is not their purpose, so no problem. Love ‘em and would buy ‘em again!

Awesome Therapy System and beat the rentals pushed by the physical therapy folks.

So after 3 knee surgeries and a professional ice therapy machine (Gameready) rental at $250 for 2 weeks for a total of $1600 that my insurance company did not cover I was back to cold packs and ice in zip lock bags… To say the least I missed my ice therapy machine… So I did some research and decided to buy the Soft Ice Active Therapy System. Found it on Amazon for almost $30 less that buying from [...] (the actual makers of the system) and requested the expedited shipping. 5 days later (holiday weekend included)…. The machine came… Now since I really couldn’t find a description of how it is made, I’ll let you in on the construction a bit.

The system is made starting with a 9 quart cooler made by Coleman, your typical off the shelf lunch sized cooler. Inside the cooler there is an intake device that resembles a small pump with a hose the goes out the side of the cooler to a box housing the temperature setting (very basic flow adjuster, slows the flow to supply warmer water speeds it up to supply cooler water). The box also houses the plug for the power supply that resembles a laptop power supply and there is an on and off switch. Coming out of the box is the insulated tubing with an outgoing and return tube inside. The tube is permanently attached to the box and has about a 3 foot insulated tube with quick connect fittings on the end to attach the universal wrap that goes on the knee. The wrap is U shaped to fit nicely around the knee, ankle or shoulder and on one side has a plastic see though channel that water flows through and on the other side there is a fleece like covering to attach velcro elastic wraps to, one is included. The box on the side also has a return tube that runs in the side of the cooler from the box and dumps the return water back into the cooler near the top, above the water line.

It’s really a simple system that works very nicely to do a job a more expensive unit does. There are no fancy cycling features, or a back lit LCD screen to tell you how long you are running and the temperature you are at, it’s all very basic and manual. FYI I priced a Gameready unit at $2500 and needed a letter from congress to buy one. This unit came delivered under $200 and does the exact same thing and is much quieter in my opinion. Missing is the very nice compression sleeve of the game ready that provided multiple compression settings and pumps air into the unit to proved a nice tight fit.. You don’t really need it but it did feel a bit better with the compression.. However comparing renting a machine for $250 for 2 weeks verses buying a machine that I will be able to use in the future after exercising and other injuries, I believe you can’t beat this deal.

Options: There are some options and add ons you can get with this machine. A 30 minute timer, an auto emptying option, and auto accessory and battery feature for travel, different style of wrap for your back and such, and then the wraps. I would recommend getting the wrap for the knee (KAW Wrap) as it covers the plastic side of the wrap and fits around the knee quite nicely, keeps you protected from condensation and skin damage form the cold and has 3 velcro elastic points to help provide some compression during the treatment.

Pros: Price, ease of use and simplicity. Effective treatment, and you get to keep it instead of renting it….

Cons: Should come standard with the KAW wrap ($30 more). Would be nice to see a quick connect at the external box since carrying the cooler with the tube flopping around on crutches is pretty difficult. I mean how much more could it cost the company to add that on? A couple of bucks? You need to insulate the basic standard wrap with a towel against the skin (again would have been better to see the KAW wrap included)

In this economy I love finding a deal, and this was a steal at this price. I also love the fact that it’s a small company that manufactures it. [...] for more info about the company and other accessories for this product.

I would recommend this product to anyone planning knee surgery, post surgery and those who typically use ice packs to ease their pain after a work out or injury. It’s a great deal and you can’t go wrong..

Read the instructions and warnings about skin damage from cold therapy, see a Dr before use and do not call a lawyer if you leave it on too long and hurt yourself, that’s your fault and your dumb for doing it. Pain is a great indicator that something isn’t right. OK hope this helps, I’m off to bask in my cold therapy heaven.

Iliotibial Band (IT Band) Syndrome is a discouraging and hindering source of knee and hip pain for athletes, and is one of the most mutual causes of lateral knee pain in runners. Most cases of iliotibial band syndrome occur as the result of “too much, too soon” or poor biomechanics and may be prevented with these simple tips and listening to your body.

Anatomy of the Iliotibial Band

The iliotibial band is a thick layer of tissue along the outer percentage of the leg that runs from the hip to the knee. KneedIT® XM Magnetic Therapeutic Knee Strap

I bought this thing because I’ve used knee straps in the past for volleyball, and I’d heard about the therapudic benefits of magnets.

For normal day to day activites, this knee strap provides some relief. I’m not sure if its from the tension on my patelar tendon or some magical benefit of the magnets. Either way, though, it provides some relief to my tendinitis.

It’s design, however, doesn’t lend itself to use during physcial activities like sports. The V groove causes it to sit a bit too low for proper patelar tendon support during activities, and the strap (one size fits all) doesn’t flex and give like other sports related knee straps on the market (Pro-tec). The velcro used in the construction is sharp. Hard to believe, but I actually pricked my finger on it while attempting to remove it.

KNEED IT: I Need it!

I comfortably wear these daily on both knees. They are well made: the velcro lasts long. I have just replaced my first set which lasted 2 years of DAILY use. I replaced them only because the neoprene pad was thinning.
Following a car accident (30 years ago), in which the soft supporting tissue around my knees was severely damaged, I had restricted activity for several years. After that I was wearing knee bands without magnets to support my patella (knee-cap) which moved too much during sports and activities, causing pain. I bought KNEED-IT on recommendation from a tennis speciality supplier and I’ve found that the magnets really do help increase circulation.
I have been pain free and my knee-caps stay in place. I highly recommend this product. Worth every cent!

KneedIT is Worth it

I’m a walker. I love to walk outside. It’s gotten harder for me, because I have some arthritis in one of my knees. The knee brace I was wearing was hard to put on, very hot, and very cumbersome. I love the KneedIT. It’s easy to use, and I believe it works even better than the orthopedic brace I was wearing. I forget I have it on.
I would strongly recommend it for anyone with this type of knee pain.
